Is downward trend in GST collections a cause of worry?
The Govt. has seen a dip in GST revenue collections for the month of October, recording a total of Rs. 83,346 Cr till November 27. While the States have collected a total of Rs. 87,238 Cr by way of SGST in the months of August, September, October, and November, Centre’s revenue (total CGST) has touched Rs. 58,556 Cr during said months. The Govt. has also recorded a fall in the filing of returns, with the total number of GSTR-3B returns filed for July, August, September and October 2017 being pegged at 58.7 lakh, 58.9 lakh, 57.3 lakh and 50.1 lakh respectively.

With the recent GST Council recommendations and various facilitative measures, the trend would pick up. The simpler compliance procedures till March 2018 should see a spurt in revenue collections.
